Central Europe, early 16th century
Malleable iron. Riveted to the support plate, three hammered and milled bands terminate in stylised grape leaves with embossed bulbs. A plate of pierced grape leaves with embossed bulbs reinforces the tracery, which is underlaid with burgundy textile. Two grooved pierced grape leaves underlaid with blue textile form the key guide. Double-bolt locking mechanism on the inside with an open oval key case.
